Sodomy (LGBTQ)
Truth overview: The sin of sodomy in its many variations is a grievous sin against almighty God. It is rebuked in both the Old and New Testaments as a sin that God hates and one that results in God-sent judgment in this life and the next. As the world strays further from God’s word this sin will become more common and promoted. Christians with true love will speak out against it and be persecuted by the world. False Christians will accept sodomy and be accepted by the world.
Note: We use the Biblical word "sodomy" as an umbrella term to cover all sins of the LGBTQ+ lifestyles. Sodomy was defined in The First English Dictionary of 1604 as “when one man lieth filthily with another man.” Modern dictionaries have purposely broadened and confused the term.
LIE #1: “Love is to accept people the way they are.”
This lie of the devil and logical fallacy permeates our world and especially this topic. If you knew someone was walking toward certain danger it would be love to yell out “stop!”. Today, however, those who remain silent on the topic or even say “keep on walking that way” are viewed as the loving ones. True Christians will speak up and speak the truth out of love.
Isaiah 5:20 “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!”
John 14:15 “If ye love me, keep my commandments.”
Psalm 97:10-12 “Ye that love the Lord, hate evil...”
Ezekiel 3:18 “When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.”
Gal. 4:16 “Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?”
Prov. 9:8 “Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.”
LIE #2: “God made people gay. It's not a choice.”
One of the biggest lies surrounding the topic of sodomy is that God, in His infinite wisdom, power, and holiness, actually created, and thereby has forced, some people to live in direct contradiction to nature and His word. The lie comes in the form of “God made me this way,” “they can’t help it,” “do you think they’d choose that lifestyle?,” etc. The answer to this lie is that the Bible says that God didn’t make people gay, science says that God didn’t make people gay, and God’s judgment throughout history says that He didn’t make people gay.
The Bible says God made male and female
Gen. 1:27 “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.”
The Bible plainly tells us in Genesis that God created two genders: male and female. If we’re not quite sure what this means, Jesus Christ, who some allege said nothing on the topic, spelled out exactly what this teaches us in terms of sexuality.
Mark 10:6-8 “But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife; And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh.”
Jesus’ position on sexuality was quite clear. In the verses above He said that God made male and female, and because God made male and female, a man should seek a wife! Additionally, he defines natural, God-given sexual relations as the joining of female and male together to make one. In other words, he did not sanction sodomy – he spoke very clearly against every form of it!
What about people who were born with physical abnormalities?
It is true that some people (less than 1 percent of the population) are born with physical abnormalities that make determining a gender more difficult. Jesus Christ even mentioned this in Matt. 19:12 when he said “...there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother's womb.” But the fact that some people are born as eunuchs has absolutely no bearing on whether it is moral for a man to have sex with a man or a male to mutilate himself to “transition to a female.” The topics are totally unrelated and incomparable. It’s like when people talk about rape as the reason that we need abortion rights when rape and incest account for 0.13 percent of all abortions. When you cite such arguments to boost your argument, know that your argument has been exposed as weak and that you’re just looking for an excuse to accept and promote sin.
What does science tell us?
After years and years of study and millions of dollars spent in attempt validate the sin of sodomy, the only thing that is clear is that there is no “gay gene.” There is no biological element that pushes people to the decision to live a life of sodomy. It is completely a choice and those who make it will be, as Romans 1 tells us, without excuse.
Isn't the gay rights Movement just like the civil rights movement?
No, it isn't. People are not born gay, they choose to be gay, this is why the comparison to the civil rights movement is ludicrous. People are born with a specific shade of skin. This is not a choice. God does not care how you look (and neither should man), but he does care how you live.
Acts 10:34-35 “Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.
Acts 17:26-27 “And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us”
But are you saying that homosexuals don’t have real desires?
All sin involves desire. Some have a strong desire for alcohol, but does that mean they should be a drunk? Some have a strong desire for women, but does that mean they should watch porn? Some have a strong desire for money, but does that mean they should rob a bank? The answer is no. Just because you desire some thing does not make it right. Desires spiral out of control and become hard to control when we give in to them.
James 1:15 "Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death."
LIE #3: “Sodomy is not a sin”
From cover to cover, the Bible calls sodomy an abomination, unseemly, vile, defiling, and a sin that results in judgment from almighty God.
Lev. 18:22 “Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.”
Lev. 20:13 “If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination...”
I Tim. 1:9-11 “Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine; According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.”
Rom. 1:26-27 "For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet."
II Tim. 3:3 "Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,"
LIE #4: “Sodomy is just the same as any other sin.”
Some may ask why sodomy needs to be singled out because "isn't all sin the same?" The answer is clearly no, especially not for the sin of sodomy. Two reasons why Christians must stand strong and preach against sodomy today are:
1) It is promoted as a good thing today (lying, stealing, murdering is not...)
Isaiah 3:9 “The shew of their countenance doth witness against them; and they declare their sin as Sodom, they hide it not. Woe unto their soul! for they have rewarded evil unto themselves.”
2) God calls the sin an abomination, a terrible sin that comes with severe judgment
Leviticus 18:22 “Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.”
An abomination is defined as a thing that causes disgust or hatred (detestation, loathing, repugnance). The Bible calls sodomy a sin that God views as very grievous.
Genesis 18:20 “And the Lord said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous;”
Those who are at least somewhat honest about the Bible will have to admit that sodomy is a sin. What lukewarm churches and “Christians” then do, however, is to proclaim that all sins are the same (e.g., stealing a piece of candy from your grandmother’s candy dish and having gay sex). If a church tries to tell you that “sin, is sin, is sin, is sin” or “we’re all sinners so don’t judge,” get out of that church. It does not stand on the Bible.
LIE #5: “Sodomy is safe. it does not come with consequences”
Romans 1 is clear that there are health conditions that come from committing sodomy. Verywellhealth.com reported, “In the United States, gay men are at a disproportionately high risk of getting HIV and AIDS. In 2015, 68 percent of all U.S. HIV infections affected men who have sex with men.”
Romans 1:27 “And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet."
According to the Bible, judgment upon sodomy comes in both this world and the next. The following verse leads us into our next section regarding eternal consequences.
Jude 7 “Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.”
LIE #6: “You can live a homosexual lifestyle and be heaven bound”
The Bible says "Ye shall know them by their fruits" in Matt. 7:16, and by the fruits of sodomy you can know that an individual does not have the savior and is not heaven bound. Nobody is sinless, but a true, heaven bound, believer's life will not be typified by a sinful lifestyle. This truth is shown throughout the Bible.
Rev. 21:8 “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”
I Cor. 6:9-11 “Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.”
I Corinthians 6 offers hope to those fooled by the sin of sodomy. It says, "such were some of you." This means that homosexuals absolutely can turn to Jesus Christ, be saved, and put the abominable lifestyle of sodomy far behind them. I pray that this is exactly what you do.
Romans 5:6-9 "For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him."
2 Cor. 5:17 "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."
Eph. 4:23-24 "And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness."
